RMIT Property, Construction and Project Management is hosting an International Women’s Day Event entitled: “Women Building Futures: Careers in Property, Construction and Project Management”. We would like to announce our first special guest who will be presenting at our event: Ms Carolyn Parker. Ms Parker was a recipient of an honorary doctorate at the last RMIT graduation ceremony (December 2015).

Ms Parker has had an exceptional career in the property and construction industry and has been a role model for progressing women in this field. She also has an outstanding record as a sustainability champion and visionary.

She graduated from RMIT in 1990 with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and is currently an independent Company Director.

This follows a distinguished 25 year posting as Managing Director of the privately-owned Kador Group, until her retirement from that role in 2013.

Kador has extensive property investments in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra and, under her leadership, the Group delivered Australia’s largest green commercial refurbishment involving the redevelopment of 500 Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

The 30 year old, 28 level multi-tenanted building has achieved a 5 Star Green Star Certified Rating for the design of its staged refurbishment, making it the first CBD commercial building to achieve this.

The refurbishment turned an ageing landmark into a contemporary icon, with productivity gains measured by a study jointly undertaken by the Kador Group and Sustainability Victoria. Staff surveys revealed that 40 per cent of the workforce found their new workplace to be “invigorating” with improved air quality, temperature and office ambience, and there was a significant reduction in absenteeism through illness.

Under Carolyn’s stewardship, the Group then undertook a major restoration of a heritage listed building at 39 Hunter Street, Sydney. This project achieved 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built Ratings, and was the first heritage restoration in Australia to achieve this ranking.

Carolyn is a proud RMIT alumnus and ambassador and enjoys an active relationship with RMIT as a member of the School of Property, Construction and Project Management Advisory Committee. She is a strong and passionate advocate of women in the property and construction industry, with a distinguished record of service to industry and the community.

Carolyn is or has been a member of a range of other committees and boards including Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd, CFT Properties Pty Ltd, Mt Eliza Community Enterprise Ltd (Bendigo Bank franchise), Master Capital Group, Girl Guides Victoria Finance Committee, Australian Property Industry Foundation, Property Council of Australia Victorian Division Council, and Property Advisory Committee, Salvation Army.

We invite you to attend our event being held on International Women’s Day – Tuesday 8 March 2016 12pm – 2pm at RMIT Alumni Courtyard.
