Where are you working now?

“Bunnings Group – Property Team”

What is your role and what activities does your role entail on a daily basis?

“Construction Co-ordinator. It involves looking after small projects including roadworks, subdivisions and lease-tail works. It also involves assisting senior project managers with new stores that are being constructed in Vic/Tas.”

What was your favourite part of your degree?

“Subjects that relate specifically to industry settings. Procurement, risk, quality etc.”

What do you like best about your role?

“The variety and multiple projects that need to be managed simultaneously.”

What attracted you to your role?

“The property development aspect. I am very interested in the process of developing existing sites so they can be utilised for multiple purposes. Retail is a great way to gain exposure to this, especially in a growing company.”

What is most important to you when looking for a job?

“That i will be challenged, always learn and have a pathway toward my goals.”

Tell us about your career journey so far.

“I started my career as a plumber working in the construction industry for 7 years, completed a bachelor of commerce and then decided that i needed to up-skill in order to gain employment/ acknowledgement from companies in this industry. I sub-contracted doing maintenance plumbing while completing the first year of my masters, until i gained employment in my current role which i am really enjoying.”

Tell us about the challenges and triumphs in this industry

“I think having a sound network allows you to overcome majority of challenges, in particular, using people with specific knowledge/ resources to assist with planning through to execution. Having an extended network can also open up new pathways for opportunity relating to business and career.”

If you could say one thing to future students looking to enter the industry – what would it be?

“Look for people like-minded, with more experience to discuss your ambitions and use this to shape your own strategy of how you might go about getting there.”
