Assoc. Prof. Jan Hayes completes Government Board term

In mid March, Associate Professor Jan Hayes has completed six years as a member of the advisory board of the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA). Since 2011, Jan has advised four Commonwealth Ministers, two NOPSEMA CEOs and numerous State Ministers on matters related to the offshore oil and gas industry including dealing with challenging safety issues such as aging facilities, low oil prices and new technologies. In the last six years, NOPSEMA’s excellent performance has seen the agency’s duties expanded to include a greater role in environmental management and well integrity. Jan has particularly been involved in efforts to include a human factors perspective in regulatory activities and in ‘raising the bar’ on process safety.
